Aikido Center of Jacksonville

Teaching Aikido Since 1992

Our martial art

What is Aikido?

Aikido is much more than a proven form of self-defense. A traditional martial art, Aikido is also an effective way to lose weight and reduce stress.

Aikido is known for its fluid and graceful form. Applied correctly, the techniques in Aikido do not cause injury—attackers are controlled with a minimum of physical damage.

For this reason, Aikido can be safely used in a variety of settings. Police departments, for example, often incorporate Aikido techniques into their curriculum.

Aikido also has a diverse weapons curriculum. Students train with the sword, staff, and knife, both alone and with partners. Advanced training includes practice against multiple attackers.

Aikido is for everyone. It’s never too late to start training, whatever your age. And if you’ve never stepped foot in a martial arts school before? Don’t worry! We offer a gentle introduction to Aikido for our newest students.

A bit more about our school. We’ve been around a long time—since 1992, in fact. And during that time we’ve grown to become one of the largest Aikido schools in north Florida. We’re a member of the United States Aikido Federation, with schools located throughout the country. And we’re the only school in Jacksonville affiliated with the world headquarters for Aikido, where it all began.

And our teachers? Dee Sensei, our chief instructor, is the highest ranked instructor in Jacksonville recognized by world headquarters. She’s also the only certified Aikido instructor in north Florida.

Had zero martial arts training when I started going. The teachers and students instantly made me feel welcome! I love coming here to train.

I had no prior martial arts experience, but the instructors and students were great. They took it slowly until I got a hand on things.
